I... Can't tell if I like this song...

I actually love the crunchy bass, and I think it goes REALLY well with synth you add around 1:01. I also believe that the kick fits the song but it's too clean with the bass... It just feels like you should make the kick dirtier, you know? But that I think is more of a matter of style and opinion.
It also seems a little repetitive to me... Sure it's catchy and when the drop came it sounded like it would really change, but you just changed the rythem to the bass, and the chord progression ultimately stayed the same... that and there wasn't enough "ear candy" for the progression to seem different.
Still not sure if I like it or not, I felt myself moving to the song at times and other times thinking "this is kinda boring", so my review score is gonna just reflect the score of this piece at this time, but still, I give you props for trying something different.

EricFreeman responds:

So the song's basically just repetitive then? Yeah, I guess I can see that. I didn't think it was too bad, however.

Thanks for listening though and I'm glad you didn't completely hate it :)

Hmm...

I refuse to tell you wether or not it's good or not due to the fact that it's mixed awfully and some things you just can't hear... But I'll tell you I'm interested, and that if you get your music mixed better I'd look forward to more stuff like this.

Gunshy responds:

i hear ya. i hear it. it's true.
HOWEVER... other links whats might be to this elsewhere do exist. i can't say anymore, right? which is kinda weird, anymore. this is the Commercial Century, right? we're all walking commercials for ourselves. especially online.
but the main problem with this mix is that it's in 96k, which SEVERELY hampers all of the atmospherics of the guitars and vocals. which are a bit overdone, for my taste. the autotune doesn't work so well with reverb. but i tried to use it more for like a robotic (or futuristic) effect than for practical reasons.
also, i don't often write pop songs.
thanks for the review.

Really liked it

I really like the beggining, the piano chord progression really draws your attention and almost gives you this anticipating feeling.
I hope you dont mind me giving you a couple suggestions and I know you've already got this, but since the chord progression is litterally the same as Dream on and only slightly off on a couple BPM, it DOES sound like the chorus to Dream On... I understood completely where you come from, it's impossible to find a completely original chord progression, but since most of your song consists mostly of just the same chord progression just played by different instruments, it's hard to get away from it being literally a fairly close copy of Dream On, I simply suggest changing the melody a bit... make it more complex and it could possibly lead away from that similar sound. Or possibly change the litteral chord progression slightly, wether by it's notes or rythem. Even a change of instruments could change it from sounding like someone is bound to sing "dream on", that orchestral thing you got going I noticed really helped with making it it's own thing. Maybe change what the guitar is playing or maybe the drum feel because to me personally those feel closest to the similar sound of that chorus.
Please, don't fret, this is better than most of the crap that's in the audio portal these days.

JMcGoran responds:

See I don't mind CONSTRUCTIVE criticism! lol thanks for the comment and pointers, were useful :) aye, one thing i think it needs is vocals. This track was always written as more of a backing track to a vocal song, rather than a piece in it's own right, hence why it's fairly repetitive, verse chorus type feel without having a main melody throughout :P, so once they're done I think the piece will totally come into it's own. Hopefully have a new version up soonish.

Not bad, but not good.

Accurate would be the correct term. It had a overal steady and nice beat. But even as a noob at music making I could see many things that could be better (Ex: you could add maybe a dist to the kick). And it sounded really quite for some odd reason, I say quite because it seems the word epic has been pretty much raped by your reviewers. Overal exceptional...

5/10 - 2/5 decent at best.

PERVOK responds:

How the hell would distorting the kick help out the track?

edit: Oh, you're 13. Explains a lot.
